Testosterone Lawsuit News: New York Man Latest AndroGel User to File Testosterone Stroke Claim, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, New York (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Users of AndroGel and other low testosterone therapies (http://www.testosteronelawsuitcenter.com/) continue to file testosterone treatment lawsuits in courts throughout the country, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, a New York man has become the latest plaintiff to file an AndroGel lawsuit alleging the medication increases the risk of strokes, heart attacks, blood clots and death. The Complaint, which was filed on March 10, 2014, claims that the Plaintiff suffered a stroke in 2011, after using AndroGel for about five months. (Case No. 1:14-cv-01667)
“Our Firm has heard from a number of AndroGel patients who also claim that this drug was responsible for their heart problems. We expect the number of testosterone treatment lawsuits will continue to mount in the coming months,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal reviews to anyone who may have suffered serious heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, allegedly due to the use of prescription testosterone therapies.
Testosterone Treatment Lawsuits
According to court documents, this case is one of several testosterone treatment lawsuit now pending in the Northern District of Illinois involving AndroGel. Four cases were filed on February 4th on behalf of men who allegedly suffer heart attacks, strokes and heart failure due to their use of the medication. (Case Nos: 1:14-cv-00776, 1:14-cv-00780, 1:14-cv-00777, and 1:14-cv-00772) A Fifth AndroGel lawsuit filed on February 10th claimed that the plaintiff suffered pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and other serious cardiovascular injuries after using multiple doses of the drug. (Case: 1:14-cv-00917)
Court filings in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California also indicate that the maker of Testim was named in a testosterone lawsuit that was filed on behalf of a man who suffered a heart attack after using that medication. (Case No. No. 14-278)
According to court documents, all of these testosterone lawsuits accuse the manufacturers of prescription testosterone therapies of engaging in “disease mongering” to drive sales of the drugs, and to encourage men to seek treatment for low sex drive, fatigue and other symptoms associated with aging. The lawsuits further allege that this aggressive marketing resulted in testosterone therapies being prescribed to men who did not suffer from low testosterone, even though the medications are only approved to treat patients who suffer from the condition due to an underlying medical disorder or injury.
All of these testosterone treatment lawsuits were filed after the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it was investigating heart risks that may be associated with testosterone therapy. According to an alert issued by the agency on January 31, 2014, the review was prompted by the publication of two studies which found a high rate of serious cardiovascular events in men with preexisting heart problems who received testosterone. The FDA has not yet concluded that these drugs will raise the risk of such heart events, but has advised doctors to weigh their risk and benefits when they are prescribed.
Men who may have been harmed by AndroGel or another prescription testosterone treatment could be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
