Testosterone treatment lawsuits (http://www.testosteronelawsuitcenter.com/) are now being filed in courts around the country on behalf of men who allegedly suffered life-threatening heart problems due to prescription medications used to treat hypgonadism (low testosterone). According to court documents, the family of a Louisiana man recently filed a testosterone lawsuit that claims his fatal heart attack was caused by Testim, a medication he had used for approximately one year. The complaint, which was filed in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana on March 21, 2014, accuses Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of selling a defective and unreasonably dangerous medication, and of engaging in aggressive marketing campaigns that misrepresented its safety.( Case 2:14-cv-00658)
“Our Firm has heard from numerous men who allegedly suffered heart attacks, strokes, and other heart problems due to drugs like Testim. We are monitoring this growing litigation very closely,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal reviews to anyone who may have suffered serious heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, allegedly due to the use of prescription testosterone therapies.
According to a Drug Safety Communication issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in January, a number of studies have linked the use of prescription testosterone therapies to life-threatening cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes. The FDA is now conducting a safety review of these drugs, though it has not yet concluded that this class of medications can cause serious heart problems.
The studies that prompted the FDA to issue its safety communication included research that was published last November in the Journal of the American Medical System which reported an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death among older men with pre-existing heart problems.* A second study, which was published in PLOS One in January, reported that such treatments ware associated with a doubling of the heart attack risk among younger men with pre-existing heart problems, and in men over 65 regardless of their heart health.**
Court documents indicate that at least 30 AndroGel lawsuits are currently pending in federal courts throughout the U.S. that claim that low testosterone therapy also caused men to suffer serious cardiovascular problems. On March 28th, plaintiffs in these lawsuits asked the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to transfer all of these cases to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois for coordinated pretrial proceedings. Men who allegedly suffered serious heart side effects due to their use of prescription testosterone therapies may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturers of these drugs.
