New York, New York (PRWEB) August 03, 2014
As men continue to file testosterone lawsuits (http://www.drugbot.com/testosterone/) that allege strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular side effects, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes the release of a new report suggesting that certain prescription therapies are being prescribed to patients without documented low levels of the hormone.
According to an article from 10TV.com in Ohio, a urologist from Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center said that more men are asking to be prescribed the hormone-raising drugs, but that long-term use of prescription testosterone therapies may cause the body to be too reliant on them. "When we start giving patients supplementation with it, we're telling their body not to make it any more,” Dr. Gregory Lowe said in the report on July 30th.*
As people begin taking AndroGel, Testim and other testosterone therapies, the drugs continue to be named in lawsuits alleging serious cardiovascular injuries. The majority of these claims have been filed in the Northern District of Illinois. (In re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Product Liability Litigation - MDL No. 2545)
“We are not surprised by the recent news involving prescription testosterone therapies, as we continue to hear from men who claim to have suffered other side effects of AndroGel and other medications,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free and confidential case reviews to men who allegedly suffered strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems stemming from a testosterone treatment.
The safety and effectiveness of testosterone replacements have been heavily scrutinized since January, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health alert that noted its ongoing investigation into cardiovascular problems that may be associated with AndroGel, Testim, Delatestryl and other testosterone products. The warning was issued on January 31, 2014 and followed the release of two studies that found an increased risk for heart attacks, strokes and/or death in younger men with a history of heart disease and all older men taking testosterone medications.
Since then, court documents show more than 150 testosterone treatment lawsuits now filed in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Claims filed in this federal litigation similarly accuse testosterone manufacturers of failing to adequately warn about cardiovascular side effects that may stem from their products.
Men who allegedly suffered heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or another serious cardiovascular side effect after taking a testosterone therapy may be eligible to file a testosterone lawsuit.
