As testosterone lawsuits (http://www.testosteronelawsuithub.com/) continue to move forward in U.S. courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes a recent study that finds little correlation between elevated levels of the male hormone and improved athletic performance.

According to a report on December 1st from Philly.com, the research was conducted at Emory University in Atlanta, and appeared recently in the International Journal of Exercise Science. To obtain results, leaders of the study measured testosterone levels in several cross-country runners before and after they participated in the same race, and found that increased levels of the hormone did not affect their finish times.* These findings were announced as testosterone lawsuits that similarly accuse the makers of AndroGel and other hormone-raising therapy treatments of promoting their products as a remedy for fatigue, muscle loss, low libido and other symptoms commonly associated with aging continue to be filed in a federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) currently underway in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. “As our Firm continues to hear from men who were allegedly prescribed certain testosterone medications to treat fatigue and other health issues, we are very interested in the findings of this recent study,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective medical devices and drugs. The Firm is currently evaluating legal claims on behalf of men who allege heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and other serious heart problems caused by their use of prescription testosterone medications.

Testosterone Litigation

According to court documents, at least 259 testosterone lawsuits had been filed in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois as of November 17th on behalf of men who allege similar injuries caused by AndroGel, AndroDerm, Testim and other hormone-raising medications. Plaintiffs in these cases allege the off-label promotion of these products for uses not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which only specifies their clearance for treating hypogonadism, a condition referring to abnormally-low levels of the hormone.

Lawsuits involving these medications, which similarly accuse manufacturers of failing to warn about their alleged potential to cause strokes, heart attacks, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and other serious heart problems, have continued to mount since January 2014, when the FDA issued a public health alert that announced its investigation into the possible cardiovascular risks. According to plaintiffs, sales of testosterone replacement products were driven by deceptive marketing tactics that induced healthy men to use the drugs without the presence of a true medical need.

Men who allegedly suffered serious heart side effects due to their use of prescription testosterone therapies may be eligible to receive compensation from the manufacturers of these medications.
