Hunter Education Company Recommends Texas Hunters Get Certified Now for Upcoming Hunting Season

Texas hunting season is fast approaching. Dove hunters in the North and Central regions can take to the fields beginning Sept. 1, 2014, while those hunting in the Southern region must wait until Sept. 20, 2014. Archery season for deer isn't far behind, beginning on Sept. 27, 2014. Texas hunters should make sure they have all of the appropriate certifications in order to be legal before heading to the field.

Texas law requires hunters born after Sept. 1, 1971 to complete a hunter safety course. Hunters must be at least 9 years old to take the online course and to be certified to hunt in Texas. Students can complete their Texas hunter education certification in multiple ways: in person, online, or a combination of both. Students who want to take an in-person class can sign up for a traditional basic hunter education course. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department also holds enhanced hunter education classes and advanced hunter education classes, depending on the experience the student is looking for.

Students who want to take the online course in the comfort and convenience of their own home can sign up at Those younger than 17 will need to take the online course and then complete their certification by attending and passing an in-person field day. Those 17 years of age and older can complete their Texas hunter education by passing the online course and printing their temporary hunter education certificate; permanent hunter education certificates are mailed within three to four weeks by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
