West Palm Beach, FL Distracted Driving Attorney David J. Glatthorn Comments on Driving Simulator Used Statewide To Illustrate Danger Of Distracted Driving
West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) July 05, 2014 -- West Palm Beach personal injury lawyer David J. Glatthorn of David Glatthorn Law today said tools such as AAA’s distracted driving simulator can help reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on Florida’s roads and highways.
Glatthorn commented on a June 12, 2014, article in the Tampa Bay Times about the American Automobile Association in Florida taking its driving simulator on a statewide tour. The simulator allows drivers to experience first-hand the consequences of texting while driving and other distracting activities, according to the Times.
“Too often, too many people believe they can text and drive at the same time and not cause an accident,” Glatthorn said. “But study after study has shown that texting while driving dramatically increases the odds of someone causing a serious car accident. That’s why our law firm was thrilled to learn about the AAA program in Florida designed to educate drivers about the dangers of distracted driving. And it’s not just texting while driving. The driving simulator allows drivers to pretend that they’re driving drunk, then shows them the long-term consequences of such reckless behavior. Hopefully, plenty of people will use this simulator and tell their friends about the dangers of distracted driving.”
The AAA distracted driving simulator doesn’t simply simulate driving while drunk or texting, according to the Tampa Bay Times. If someone causes a drunk driving accident in Florida on the AAA simulator, the machine takes participants through the consequences of their actions step by step, according to the article. In this instance, the reporter for the Times article wrote, “I was put in a holding cell and taken to court. The judge sentenced me to three years' probation, a one-year driver's license suspension and a $5,000 fine.”
The AAA distracted driving simulator then showed a video to the reporter simulating a job interview after being convicted of drunk driving. During the simulated job interview, the employer asked the reporter for a copy of her driving record, adding, “Will that be a problem for you?”
Such lifelike simulations illustrating the long-term consequences of a distracted driving accident should be provided to as many drivers as possible in Florida, said attorney Glatthorn.
“Texting while driving in Florida is against the law, but not everyone seems to understand just how dangerous such activities are behind the wheel,” Glatthorn said. “That’s why hopefully such preventative measures will convince more drivers to put down their phones and focus on the road. Our law firm knows all too well how devastating distracted driving accidents can be in Florida. We know because we routinely work with people injured in car accidents caused by distracted drivers. We take these cases very seriously because we strongly believe innocent drivers should not have to pay for someone else’s mistakes.”
