Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) November 21, 2013

Knoxville distracted driving accident lawyer G. Turner Howard of the Law Offices of G. Turner Howard III today said he hopes a new law enforcement effort in Tennessee to catch distracted drivers will reduce the number of car accidents and ultimately save lives.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is using the THP tractor trailer truck to catch drivers who are texting, according to WBIR (“THP uses a new tool to catch distracted drivers,” Oct. 29). The big truck will be used throughout the state to help police better identify and cite drivers for texting and driving, according to the report.

“It’s a known fact that texting-while-driving is a problem in Knoxville and throughout the state of Tennessee. We are pleased to see that police are taking aggressive action to stop drivers from texting behind the wheel,” said Howard, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “It’s our hope at the Law Offices of G. Turner Howard that this campaign will help reduce the amount of texting-while-driving accidents in our state.”

According to WBIR, the tractor trailer staffs two troopers – one a driver and one observing – and allows troopers to clearly identify drivers who are texting while driving. When one is spotted, WBIR reports, the troopers identify local officials who pull over the distracted driver and issue a citation.

Furthermore, WBIR reports that the Tennessee Highway Patrol hopes that the mere presence of the tractor trailer, which is clearly marked as a patrol vehicle, will remind drivers not to text.

“Texting while driving is against the law in Tennessee, and drivers who text and cause accidents must be held accountable,” said Howard, a distracted driving attorney in Knoxville. “Driving distracted puts everyone on the road at risk of sustaining severe or fatal injuries. We have seen first-hand the devastating impact of these types of accidents.”

Howard said attorneys can help victims pursue compensation for their losses. A lawyer can help them hold the negligent individual accountable and send a message that negligent behavior will not be tolerated on Tennessee roads.
