Radiosurgery Society® Launches Database to Study Quality of Life In Cancer Patients Treated With Radiosurgery
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) April 27, 2017 -- The Radiosurgery Society (RSS), a non-profit medical society dedicated to advancing the science and clinical practice of radiosurgery, announced today the launch of its enhanced RSSearch® Patient Registry using the VisionTree Optimal Care® 360 platform. RSSearch is the largest patient registry managed by a professional medical society, a repository dedicated to collecting, screening, treatment and follow-up data on patients with cancer and benign lesions treated with radiosurgery.
Based upon feedback from its expert clinical and physics users, the new RSSearch platform has been expanded to provide more comprehensive data fields to record screening, treatment, and follow-up information for patients treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), while retaining many of the elements familiar to its current user-base including the layout and design features. These elements will further reinforce the growing number of outcomes analyses and peer-reviewed publications resulting from RSSearch. “RSSearch is a comprehensive medical-team and patient-centered registry, allowing physicians and patients to work together to gain a better understanding of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) treatment of cancer and other specialized diseases. RSSearch will now provide patients from around the world the ability to support SRS research efforts and share relevant data on quality of life information after radiosurgery treatments. The new platform will provide us with clinical, treatment planning and delivery information and patient-reported outcomes needed to advance the field of stereotactic radiosurgery,” stated Dr. Shalom Kalnicki, Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Montefiore Medical Center, NY.
Additionally, participating centers now have access to advanced reporting features and more efficient automated data transfers between all treatment planning systems using DICOM format. The enhanced platform also offers a secure Patient Portal where patients can access and complete their individual quality of life questionnaires.
“As the RSSearch Patient Registry continues to grow, we believe it’s important to listen to the needs of our clinical contributors around the world and evolve our offerings accordingly,” said Joanne Davis, Ph.D., Executive Director of the RSS. “Through a careful review and selection process, the RSS Board of Directors has chosen to partner with VisionTree to provide a comprehensive, robust, data management system for RSSearch and our global participating centers.”
Developed in 2005, the RSSearch Patient Registry houses screening, treatment and follow-up data from more than 19,000 patients treated with SRS/SBRT at more than 40 centers worldwide. Data includes patient demographics, payer information, treatment practices and outcome information. The RSSearch Registry is managed by the RSS and the RSSearch Clinical Advisory Committee, made up of professionals involved in the management and care of patients treated with SRS/SBRT.
