The Academy of Home Staging and Design Announces their Student of the Year 2018
NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 12, 2018 -- It’s usually difficult picking the best of the best from our students, but Crystal Bennett made it very easy. Crystal’s courage, talent and strength is so inspiring, there was no other choice. Crystal Bennett is The Academy of Home Staging and Design’s Student of the Year for 2018.
Crystal and her husband were facing financial hardships when they were both laid off. Her husband had taken a class on flipping houses and it was starting to gain momentum.
Then Crystal was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Fighting through cancer, facing surgery and treatment can be overwhelming, add to that the strain of trying to find a new job, starting a new business and financial insecurity, this would be enough to stop most people in their tracks.
Not Crystal, she decided to reinvent herself and join her husband in making flipping houses a family business. She went online and started looking for courses in interior design and home staging and found The Academy of Home Staging and Design.
What Crystal learned at AHSD took her to a different level. “All the real-life examples from Wanda (Wanda Colon, Founder and Instructor) and George (George Cambron, Interior Designer at Style My Space and Instructor at AHSD) and the forms and contracts I could use right away-they made the Academy something special.”
Crystal was right her training was something special, just like Crystal herself, and we weren’t the only ones who thought so, so did HGTV. HGTV’s program House Hunters films clients as they find a new home to move into. The HGTV realtor found the home Crystal and Nate had just designed and wanted to feature it on the show. “I had come back from AHSD’s Interior Design program with a heightened sense of design and was much better attuned to what clients want. But still, it was a total shock.”
In addition to her HGTV premier, Crystal and Nate have flipped two properties, one at a $60K profit, and a third project is under way. Is Crystal tempted to go back to the security of corporate work? Sure, but she can feel that everyone at AHSD genuinely wanted her to succeed, and that keeps her moving ahead. “I love doing this work. And I am still committed to ‘good’ just isn’t good enough.”
The Academy of Home Staging and Design taught Crystal the principals of staging and the business of staging, but she showed us how courage looks in the face of adversity and how to overcome situations that seem insurmountable.
We can’t wait to see what Crystal does next.
