The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea Seeks Resident Curatorship for Flanders Mansion
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (PRWEB) November 20, 2018 -- The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, a coastal village of 4,000 residents on the Central Coast in Monterey County, Calif, is extending a unique opportunity to live rent-free in historic Flanders Mansion at 25800 Hatton Road, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif. The City is accepting proposals from individuals interested in entering into a resident curatorship agreement with the City for the rehabilitation, historic restoration and use of the City’s property.
Designed in 1924 by noted architect Henry Higby Gutterson, Flanders Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places primarily due to the work of the prominent architect and his innovative construction methods. The mansion is a two-story Tudor Revival style home, with English Cottage architectural design elements. Featuring nearly 6,000 square feet of livable space, the Mansion features 11 rooms, 7 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, 4 fireplaces and a small basement.
The Mansion is nestled within the Mission Trail Nature Preserve, a City-owned park with exceptional hiking and bird-watching opportunities. The property also features views of the Carmel Mission Basilica and Point Lobos.
Individuals who are interested in this curatorship opportunity must submit a proposal that includes the components listed in the Request for Proposal by 5 p.m. PST on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018.
A curatorship is a public-private partnership in which private individuals donate their time, skills and financial resources to rehabilitate and restore historic buildings located on government-owned land in exchange for the long-term rent-free use of the building.
The prospective curator for the Flanders Mansion will be required to rehabilitate, restore, and maintain the Mansion, at his/her own expense, in exchange for the rent-free use of the Mansion as a single-family residence for a term of twenty (20) years.
