The Holistic Sanctuary Raises Alarm About Teenage Drug Addiction
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- The Holistic Sanctuary announces its efforts to increase awareness about the threat of teenage drug addiction, and the abuse of painkillers and sedatives. This statement follows a new study from the University of Michigan, published in Pediatrics®: Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in which over 10 percent of teens and young adults treated in a hospital emergency room admitted to misusing a prescription painkiller or sedative in the past year.(1) Less than 15% of those who admitted misusing painkillers, according to the report, actually had a prescription for the drug.
This survey of 2,135 young people aged 14 to 20 who were treated in the emergency room at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor is the first study of its kind, which analyzes pediatric misuse of prescription medication in an emergency department setting.(2) Even worse, these findings come just two months after a comprehensive study in the journal The Lancet, declaring painkiller addictions the worst drug epidemic in U.S. history.(3)
Based on additional reporting from Al Jazeera America, this problem is so severe that enough painkillers were prescribed in 2010 (the year for which there is the most recent data) to medicate every American adult around the clock for one month.(4) In this same article, Dr. Andrew Kolodny, President of Physicians for Responsible Opioid Prescribing, says: “According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), this is the worst epidemic in U.S. history. CDC has data demonstrating that around the same time doctors began aggressively prescribing these medications in the late 1990s, there have been parallel increases in rates of addiction.”(5)
CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta raises a similar point. “Truth is, it is easier for a doctor to write a prescription than to explore other effective options to combat pain,” he says. "And it is easier for patients to take those prescription pills than to search for alternatives themselves. Both those things must absolutely change."(6)
Additional statistics from the CDC underscore the cost, medically and financially, of this crisis and its impact on teens, parents and the public at large. For example: Emergency department visits for prescription painkiller abuse of misuse have doubled in the past 5 years to approximately half a million.(7) Another 12 million American teens and adults reported using prescription painkillers to get “high” or for other nonmedical reasons.(8) And finally, nonmedical use of prescription painkillers costs more than $72.5 billion each year in direct health care expenses.(9)
This failure to resolve this epidemic, along with the apparent inability of conventional drug rehabs to curb this problem, is a clear contrast to The Holistic Sanctuary’s all-natural, proprietary, safe and effective means of permanently ending addiction and unifying the mind, body and spirit. In a PBS interview with David Sheff, author of “Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America’s Greatest Tragedy,” he outlines an abundance of reasons why society and traditional addiction treatments have failed to help the 20 million Americans with addictions.(10) Sheff also reminds us that: “Every year in the U.S., 120,000 people die of addiction. That’s 350 a day.”(11)
For Johnny Tabaie, “Johnny The Healer,” (see also http://www.johnnythehealer.com/) the Founder of The Holistic Sanctuary, these statistics fuel his efforts to permanently end addiction, thanks to his safe and successful solution known as the Pouyan Method. This treatment targets and reverses the root causes of addiction, repairing and rejuvenating brain cells damaged by drug abuse and restoring the brain to its pre-addictive state.
Also, Johnny does not characterize addiction as an incurable disease or a personal failure, which requires attack therapy and indoctrination. His moving and inspiring video testimonials from guests underscore this philosophy, proving there is an alternative to the relapse-to-rehab revolving door of pain, anguish and bankruptcy. “This epidemic is a tragedy for several reasons. First, it strikes our youngest and most vulnerable citizens, teens, leaving them addicted to serious – and potentially deadly – combinations of opiates and prescription drugs. Two, this problem continues to increase, despite attempts to educate the public about the severity of this issue. And third, this dramatic rise in addictions reveals the toxic effects of the current system, where conventional rehab centers worsen an already bad situation with a cocktail of even more prescription medications. The Holistic Sanctuary does the exact opposite, permanently ending addiction and repairing the neurotransmitters where addiction originates, thereby healing a patient’s brain so they can heal their life,” says Mr. Tabaie.
