The Lambert Firm, PLC and Steckler Gresham Cochran PLLC File Lawsuit Against Owners and Managers of Iconic Village Apartment Complex After Deadly Fire
A lawsuit has been filed in the District Court of Travis County, Texas against the owners and management of the Iconic Village apartments, where a fire tore through the complex on July 20, 2018, killing five and injuring many more.
DALLAS, Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The parents of a survivor of the deadly Iconic Village apartment fire that occurred on July 20, 2018 in San Marcos, Texas have filed a lawsuit against the owners and managers of the apartment complex, San Marcos Green Investors, LLC, Elevate Multifamily, LLC, and Deborah Jones. Their son, Zachary Sutterfield, is a 20-year-old student at Texas State University and resided at the Iconic Village apartments and was burned over 70 percent of his body while the blaze tore through the apartment complex. The lawsuit alleges that the fire and smoke alarms failed to effectively activate to warn the residents and that the complex did not have a functioning fire sprinkler system or any other fire suppression system. Zachary Sutterfield remains in critical condition after having undergone several surgeries and skin grafts at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center in San Antonio where he is currently admitted.
The Iconic Village, located just two blocks from Texas State University, was heavily populated by students. The San Marcos Fire Chief said that the fire was the "deadliest blaze" in San Marcos's history, killing five, injuring many more, and displacing over 200 residents.
According to the Plaintiff's Original Petition, the complex was allegedly equipped with only battery-powered smoke alarms and the lawsuit claims that the defendants were not only negligent, but violated city, state, and federal regulations that make them negligent as a matter of law.
The lawsuit was filed by Steckler Gresham Cochran PLLC and The Lambert Firm, PLC on behalf of Zachary Sutterfield on August 16, 2018 in the District Court of Travis County, Texas.
