NEW YORK, Oct. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts (NYCDA) today proudly announced the opening of its annual "Your Start in the Arts" grant program. Celebrating National Arts & Humanities month, The New York Conservatory's "Your Start in the Arts" grant program honors and supports secondary high school educators in drama and theater who have inspired students to follow their passion for the art of storytelling through acting.
"The New York Conservatory created the 'Your Start in the Arts' grant to honor outstanding high school teachers and drama departments who are making a difference for students pursuing their passion for the performing arts. This is especially critical as funding for drama education in secondary schools continues to be a significant challenge for schools as they look to fulfill their goals of best nurturing and supporting students pursuing careers in dramatic arts," said Richard Omar, president and artistic director at The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. "The response to our inaugural grant program demonstrated this need is widespread throughout the U.S., with nearly one thousand submissions sharing their moving and inspiring stories with us. As a result, we are proud to double The New York Conservatory's grant funding in 2019. We look forward to receiving this year's submissions and are thrilled to continue our deep commitment to secondary education in the dramatic arts."
Starting on October 1, 2019, high school students and alumni will be able to nominate their high school drama department to be considered for a $1,000 grant by completing the nomination form. The New York Conservatory will accept nominations until October 31, 2019 at 11:59 pm EST. Once the nomination period closes, a panel of New York Conservatory actor-faculty will convene to read the submissions. The panel will vote for the ten most compelling cases for support. Grant winners will be notified by email and announced on December 15, 2019.
