PHILADELPHIA, April 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Molly MacDonald was recognized with the eyeforpharma Award in the Patient Champion Category for creating the nonprofit, THE PINK FUND®. The Patient Champion Award recognizes individuals who have provided the patient with a voice, a voice that has influenced governments, customers or other patients - and ultimately provided better results for society. Good advocates are able to challenge the status quo, ensure that patients are heard and empowered, and motivate others to account for those in need.
MacDonald was selected by a judging panel of pharma industry experts, patients and customers for creating an organization with a mission to provide short-term non-medical financial assistance to breast cancer patients in active treatment. After her own experience with the financial devastation often caused by breast cancer treatment, MacDonald made it her mission to give help."While sitting in treatment waiting rooms, I met other working breast cancer patients on unpaid leave needing help. I used that motivation of seeing patients with nowhere to get financial help, and decided to become a resource to GIVE help", MacDonald explained. MacDonald spent the next year turning that dream into reality and launched The Pink Fund in 2006.
MacDonald was one of three finalists in the category who presented case studies to eyeforpharma's panel of expert judges yesterday in Philadelphia. Winners were announced today at the eyeforpharma Summit, in front of 800+ industry leaders, patients and other stakeholders.
