HOUSTON, Nov. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Right Step Houston, a long-time leader in addiction rehabilitation services, celebrated its 30th year in service to the Harris County community this month. While the anniversary would typically call for a gathering of alumni and community leaders, due to COVID-19, facility staff have pivoted these celebrations to create a safe way to honor the long standing treatment center.
Thirty years is an impressive amount of time for any treatment center, and The Right Step Houston has used this time to make positive connections within its surrounding communities. Throughout these years, The Right Step Houston has had the honor of impacting more than 21,150 clients. These clients have been provided the tools, motivation and support to find hope and healing outside of their substance abuse cycle. While COVID-19 has created barriers for celebrations, it has not affected The Right Step Houston's mission: to create quality, affordable treatment for Texans.
"Our focus is really on what we do best and that is helping people heal," remarked DeLisa Russell, Executive Director of The Right Step Houston. "And right now, we want to come together and help the community because there is an epidemic within this pandemic. Individuals are suffering at an overwhelming rate, with an increase especially in suicide and drug overdose. And while it is important to celebrate, we want to channel our celebration to focus on our community."
Still, to honor this anniversary, The Right Step Houston will be erecting a memorial plaque within the treatment center along with a billboard advertisement in the Harris County area. The alumni will participate in 30 days of gratitude, where they will virtually share their recovery stories and their experience as Right Step Houston clients. And while the timeline remains unknown, there is hope that next year The Right Step Houston will host an in-person event to continue engaging with alumni, clients and the Harris County Community.
While this anniversary has set a precedent, it is important to remember that this is only a stepping stone for The Right Step Houston. By continuing to improve best treatment practices and strengthening community connections, The Right Step Houston can look forward to another strong 30 years ahead.
