St John Ambulance NI has invested £160,000, over 5 years, in a Cloud Computing solution managed by The Cloud Simplified. The world class cloud computing platform will provide St John Ambulance with a highly resilient, high availability solution with the flexibility to scale according to demand.

St John Ambulance NI has invested £160,000, over 5 years, in a Cloud Computing solution managed by The Cloud Simplified. Located in the BT Northern Ireland Datacentre, this world class cloud computing platform will provide St John Ambulance with a highly resilient, high availability solution with the flexibility to scale according to demand.

The plan, according to St John Ambulance NI’s Hazel Patton, is to enable everyone involved in the charity to collaborate online - from offering an efficient online booking system for workplace training through to communicating with existing volunteers. The solution will also enable St John Ambulance NI to publish its latest policies online so all volunteers are working to consistent standards.

“Bringing St John Ambulance into the 21st century and onto the Cloud has been vital,” Patton explains. “Our mission is to be the difference between ‘a life lost and a life saved’ and the high availability platform offered by The Cloud Simplified will help us to save even more lives. All our volunteering activities - for example providing a first-aid provision at public events - are supported by the funds we raise through statutory first-aid training in the workplace.

Making it easier to arrange training should result in an increase in bookings which, in turn, should result in an increase in funds. Also, a more modern online presence should attract larger numbers of younger volunteers, enabling us to offer a better first-aid service to the community. So, as a result, even more lives should be saved.”

Patton explains that St John Ambulance chose The Cloud Simplified as its partner for a number of reasons. “We were looking for someone with experience in the charity sector and specifically with online booking systems,” she says. “Xperience Group impressed us with their understanding of our requirements and their track record. We were also attracted by the high performance, security and reliability of the Cloud architecture."

The platform, which is also about raising the profile of the St John Ambulance brand, will go live in July. “We see this investment as vital if we are going to continue to deliver the first-rate training and support that everyone expects from St John Ambulance across Northern Ireland.” says Patton.
