Life throws up a variety of obstacles that can hinder a person’s own pursuit of happiness. Writing is magic. Writing is author Mark St John’s respite. Through the glorious gift of words and a process of deep reflection comes this poignant exploration of his own struggles for inner contentment and “The Getting of Wisdom.”

“These verses detail my thoughts and feelings on a variety of subjects that have shaped my young adulthood. There have been dark times that are reflected in my writing but I aim to filter through each lesson that I have learned; the hope that has guided me along the way. My intention is that this book will provide young adults with a kindred spirit and knowledge that there are other people going through the same things as you in this tricky business of growing up.”

St John believes that “The Getting of Wisdom” is a journey rather than a destination. A delightful and varied collection of verses presented inside his book outlines one young man’s thoughts and feelings on a variety of themes and subjects that people are confronted with throughout their everyday lives. The business of growing up is tricky. Getting to know this world and one’s place in it is a constant struggle as is the much more difficult task of getting to know one’s true self.

Lending a hand to each and every individual who seeks to better understand themselves, St John sets an example through his lyrical words, as the young man in his poems examines the deep recesses of his own mind and heart. Intimate and personal, St John’s poems are intended for every listening ear and heart; showing the inquisitive souls the path to “The Getting of Wisdom.”
