Every ten pounds of cardboard is worth sixteen meals to the Care and Share. Keep in mind that the average medium-sized moving box weighs about two pounds.

The Murty Group, at The Platinum Group, Realtors, is hosting a cardboard donation drive from May throughout July to benefit GoalZero Recycling, a social enterprise of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. Cardboard donations can be dropped off at The Platinum Group, Realtors, 6760 Corporate Drive, Suite 300, Colorado Springs, CO.

“Every ten pounds of cardboard is worth sixteen meals to the Care and Share,” said Dan Murty, founder of The Murty Group. “Keep in mind that the average medium-sized moving box weighs about two pounds.”

GoalZero Recycling was born out of Care and Share’s desire to minimize mountains of food and packaging waste. The sale of material generated provides a revenue stream for the food bank to buy food for hungry people.

On Saturday, July 22, The Murty Group will also have a “Cardboard Dump Day” party. “We are going to have a picnic lunch set up on that day in our office parking lot, where everyone can come and drop off their cardboard all in one go,” concluded Murty. “We’ll be collecting cardboard at the office before then as well.”

The Murty Group also holds an Annual Care and Share Food Drive, and last year collected 324 pounds of food. Care and Share believes no one should go hungry, and every day provides food to its partner agencies across Southern Colorado.
