Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
When: November 28, 2013
Where: Begins at 77th Street and Central Park West

Since 1924, Macy’s has been delighting people of all ages with their ever-growing display of balloons, bands and floats. Those who attend the parade, which is the 2nd oldest Thanksgiving Parade in the country, will have a front row seat to see the massive balloons, over-the-top floats, Broadway performers and the best high school marching bands. Also, some of the top celebrities will be on hand to perform.

Another popular thing to do in New York happens the day before the parade. Many gather near the American Museum of Natural History to watch as the giant balloons are inflated and made ready for their debut the next day. For some locals, watching as the balloons are inflated is as much a tradition as watching the parade itself.

VIP Tickets
Officially, VIP tickets are only available to Macy’s executives and their families. Secondary ticket sellers, however, often have some of these tickets available. Recently, tickets for reserved seating in the grandstand near the beginning of the parade route were being offered for $900 each.

Parade Route:
The 2013 parade route will begin at 77th Street and Central Park West. From there it will go down Columbus Circle and onto Central Park South. Then it will march from 59th Street to 34th Street and end at Macy’s Herald Square.

While there are more than 2 miles of viewing area, those wishing to snap up a prime viewing spot will have to get to the parade route early. Many begin their wait as early as 6 a.m.

Anyone hoping to attend this iconic NY event should start planning now. New York hotels near the parade route will sell out well in advance. Those who want to enjoy a meal at one of the New York restaurants that will be serving Thanksgiving dinner should make those reservations now as well.
