Although born in 1950, author John W. Laubmeier’s parents were products of the Great Depression. Their values were inculcated into him. With a wealth of experiences that provided meaning to his life, he shares his life story in “Things Change” (published by Xlibris) to help readers make sense of and make a difference in a world where things constantly change.

“Things Change” is designed to provide insights into the human condition based on stories from the 50s through the present. The high interest but true stories provide the background for a compelling, difficult to put down book. Chapter topics range from cars and television shows of the period, to the role national events played in the decision-making of a baby-boomer and to growing into a father and grandfather. The author proves that his experiences make him what he is and can still become with age.

“My daughter asked me to share a 'few words of wisdom' at her wedding,” Laubmeier says. “As I prepared for that assignment, I arrived at one conclusion. Things change. It is how we deal with change that provides much of our happiness in this life. I have always had a passion for history.” This book allows him to share with readers well beyond the thousands of students he had in class. He wanted to use his ability as a storyteller to bring insights for the reader on lessons that a lifetime of experiences has brought him.

Most memoires are about what the author did or said. “Things Change” is a book about teaching through stories.
