According to inspirational/life coach and author William Sharkey, “We as humans experience much stress and suffering, yet we aren’t really sure why this is so.” He then says that humans tend to be stressed because, “We think too much.” With this, he offers his thoughts as to how readers can combat stress and life suffering by simply being “Thoughtless: Think Less, Be More.”
For Sharkey, humans guess that stress and suffering comes from a lack of money, security, loving relationships, a difficult childhood, lack of religious faith, because we suffer from depression or some other sort of chemical deficiency in the brain or a variety of other reasons. But there is another explanation. Sharkey believes that humans are just too attached to their thoughts — myriads of them.
In “Thoughtless”, Sharkey explores a possible reason for the troubles and stresses of humanity which is usually not considered when examining this topic. That reason is thought, and the attachment and compulsion to thinking. The book thoroughly discusses why this is so and a solution which will neutralize it, thus suggesting there is a solution for all of the problems of humanity.
“Thoughtless” basically shows readers why thoughts are the reason behind the stress and suffering that is common to almost all humans and how to do something about it, how to end it. William illustrates how it is possible to allow joy and inner peace to fill experience of life, by becoming simply becoming thoughtless.
