Content Creators can now generate recurring revenue by offering their fans a paid subscription to a stream of their best ad-free content on the turnkey TidBitts platform. At launch, the 100+ individual Creators (i.e. content-providers) on the platform have over 5 million fans.
Consumers are busy, and fatigued sifting through poor quality free Internet content to get the nuggets they want -- nobody has time for that! Getting access to exclusive, curated content delivered from only their favorite authors, celebrities and experts that can be read or watched in about 60 seconds is worth paying for: a recent survey found that 29% of consumers were willing to pay 99¢ per month for great content if the Creator is someone they care about.
“Content Creators can now easily generate a sustainable recurring revenue stream, and engage more deeply with their followers,” said Brad Greenwald, TidBitts founder & CEO and former Time Warner media executive. “It’s their content and their fans -- it’s only fair that bloggers, authors and experts have a turnkey “direct-to-fan” platform that allows them to make a living. TidBitts reverses traditional publishing models, giving fans the power to directly support the voices that interest them.”
Mark MacDonald, CNN Health expert and Creator on the TidBitts platform said “I applaud TidBitts for launching this easy-to-use site. It’s the answer we’ve been looking for. TidBitts provides the support and freedom I need to offer my fans a paid subscription to my best content -- without ads. My fans are craving this option.”
"I'm excited to use the TidBitts platform to share my experiences and guidance for young elite athletes and their parents, both on and off the field," said Jeff Blake, 14 year NFL veteran and former starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals.
What’s a “TidBitt”? A TidBitt is the text, image, audio and/or video content sent to a Subscriber. It is meant to be read or watched in about 60 seconds. Getting only the best, curated and exclusive content in “bite-sized” TidBitts is really efficient for time-strapped consumers.
So how does it work? Content Creators put their premium, curated and primarily exclusive content on the TidBitts platform. TidBitts then distributes the Creator’s content on a regular schedule (usually weekly) to subscribers who pay only 99¢ a month, with the first month free. Subscribers can unsubscribe whenever they want. TidBitts handles subscriptions, customer service, billing and content distribution. Unlike traditional publishing models where only a small percentage accrues to the author, Creators keep 85% of the revenue (minus payment processing fees).
Media marketplaces evolve to meet the needs of consumers. Consumers have shown a willingness to pay for higher quality content from content providers they care about. Just as Sirius XM radio complemented free radio, and cable TV complemented free TV, the TidBitts platform will complement free Internet content.
Greenwald concluded “TidBitts provides a real alternative to digital advertising as a means to support creating great Internet content. For example, if just 1% of a blogger’s fan base subscribes to their 99¢/month TidBitts stream, a blogger will make more than they do now on digital advertising.” For every 10,000 Subscribers, a Creator will gross about $120,000 per year, and for every 100,000 Subscribers, the gross would be about $1,200,000 per year.
