TiFiber™ One of Only Sixteen New Technology Companies Chosen to Exhibit in NPE2015: The International Plastics Showcase ‘Startup Garage’
Fayetteville, Arkansas (PRWEB) March 20, 2015 -- TiFiber, Inc. will be one of sixteen new ventures exhibiting March 23-27, Room W203A, in the Orange County Convention Center West Hall, Orlando, Florida, as part of the NPE2015 Startup Garage. NPE 2015: The International Plastics Showcase is a triennial event founded by SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association. It is recognized as the world’s largest plastics trade show and conference, with the number of exhibitors expected to exceed 2,009 and with an attendance of 60,000. This will be the largest number in NPE’s 69-year history, with 43% of exhibitors from outside the U.S., representing 37 countries.
TiFiber’s patented products are based on a family of antimicrobial polymers (AMPs) with potent, broad-spectrum activity towards both bacteria and fungi. Especially attractive characteristics of these new compounds are that although they show strong antimicrobial activity, they are safe for mammalian cells and exhibit minimal environmental concerns. AMP compounds quickly kill bacteria including E. coli, S. epidemidis, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus (including MRSA), among others.
Potential applications of TiFiber’s AMP technology include disposable and durable medical plastics, dental cements, wound care (acute and chronic wounds), medical devices (biofilm protection), active packaging, cosmetic preservatives, soaps, and textiles. Initial development work has been supported by a combination of private investment and economic development incentives from the State of Arkansas. “TiFiber’s polymers are customizable broad-spectrum antimicrobials with key advantages over currently available antimicrobials,” said Dr. Mike Rutherford, Chief Scientist of TiFiber. “I am looking forward to introducing TiFiber’s formulations to the international plastics community, and expect great interest in what TiFiber has to offer.
TiFiber, Inc.™ is developing new, high performance materials and products for control of dangerous or detrimental microorganisms including development of a biocompatible, broad-spectrum, antimicrobial additive for the replacement of triclosan, nanosilver, and other currently available antimicrobial agents. Initial applications are for personal care products, wound care dressings, medical devices and textiles. This innovative technology provides numerous advantages over currently available products while providing a competitive price point. TiFiber is a VIC Technology Venture Development™ portfolio company.
