LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Tim Chey's faith-based historical film, 'The Islands', hits theaters in the U.S. in April 2019.
"The world needs a Savior right now," says Director Tim Chey, "and we hope to bring light to a dark world via cinema."
'The Islands' is based on the true story of a Hawaiian queen who found Christ over two hundred years ago and challenged the volcano god by going into the active volcano. It's considered one of the greatest acts of moral courage by a world leader.
The film has been screening at premiers around the world with Chey introducing the film. He will be in Tokyo in early October showing the film and then on to Hong Kong.
Academy-Award winning actress Mira Sorvino plays one of the Boston missionaries to arrive into Hawaii in 1821. The film has received a lot of positive media attention for using Native Hawaiians/Polynesians in the lead roles.
"I was thrilled to work with Mira on this important film," says Chey. "She was so courageous and even did her own stunt work in rescuing a villager in the rain and riding a horse."
Sorvino, who has been in the news lately regarding Harvey Weinstein's alleged blacklisting of the actress for refusing his sexual advances, was always at the top of Chey's list to play Lucy Thornton.
"I hired Mira way before the Harvey thing broke out and was so sad to hear about how Mira was possibly blacklisted," continues Chey. "There are too many rumor-mills in our industry and it's very unfortunate that innocent people are swept up and grinded out."
Sorvino also starred opposite Teuria Shanti Napa, Ricky Sua'ava, Malia Marquez, Michael Camp, Lehi Makisi Falepapalangi, and legendary actor John Savage.
Chey is also filming his next movie 'Christmas Stories' in January 2019 for a November 2019 nationwide release. Chey runs the third largest faith-based movie company in the U.S and has produced/directed over 12 feature films.
Chey also produced the faith-based movie 'Freedom' (Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Sharon Leal) that was shot on the Amistad and also produced and directed Sony Pictures 'Slamma Jamma' (Michael Irvin, Chris Staples) which had a national theater release on March 24, 2017. The film hit 502 theaters in 281 cities across the U.S.
