Tommy Middaugh Travel To Go Vice President Heads to the Shore with Top Tips for Beachgoers
SAN DIEGO, CA (PRWEB) August 06, 2015 -- When summertime rolls around, people the world over head for the beach. In fact, according to a survey by U.S. News, four of the top five favorite summer vacation destinations were on the shore. From the Pacific to the Atlantic, and bodies of water in between, vacationers are flocking to the beach and that’s why Tommy Middaugh, Travel To Go Vice President, offers these tips to make the experience that much more enjoyable.
Leave it: Before heading to the beach, travelers should lock up their wallet and/or purse in the safe in their hotel room if they have one. Tommy Middaugh says leaving such items in a vehicle or on a beach towel is risky. When it comes to items like IDs, credit cards or money, vacationers should only bring to the beach what they need. Some intrepid beachgoers have even put items like that in a re-sealable plastic bag and buried it just beneath the sand under their blanket or towel.
Where to sit: Travelers might think it would be nice to stake their beach claim right near the water. However, Tommy Middaugh says people should read the signs on the beach before laying out their towels. Vacationers should look for obvious signs of how far up the beach high tide reaches such as lines of sea debris parallel to the water as well as wet or smooth sand. This can save travelers from having to relocate before the waves wash their belongings away later in the day.
Stand out: Nearly every beachgoer brings towels or blankets to mark their territory on a beach. Even people who are staying at a resort with complimentary beach chairs will throw their white resort towel over their claimed seats. Tommy Middaugh of Travel To Go recommends not only bringing your own bright and colorful towels or blanket, but also beach umbrella or small flag on a pole. This helps beachgoers more easily find their spot on the shore when leaving the water. It’s especially helpful for children who might otherwise feel overwhelmed and lost in the sea of people.
First aid: It is better to have it and not need it than the other way around. Travelers headed to the beach should pack a re-sealable baggy with a few first-aid essentials such as a spray bottle full of vinegar to dissipate the sting of a jellyfish; adhesive bandages; tweezers to pull out splinters or any other small items that might pierce the skin; hydrocortisone cream for bug bites; antibacterial wipes or gel; and eye drops for irritated eyes.
