Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) October 01, 2014
Celebrities, military veterans, volunteers and supporters of Team Rubicon will take part in the first-ever, GORUCK Light for Team Rubicon, Oct. 4, to raise funds for the El Segundo-based, national disaster relief organization.
The GORUCK Light is a team event inspired by military special operations training. Those brave enough to endure the 7-10 miles, covered in 4-5 hours, will be put through a series of physical and mental tests. They will begin and finish at Beach Park 1, in Santa Monica, at 9 a.m.
More than two dozen participants have signed on, including actors Anson Mount, Rod Lurie, Milo Ventimiglia and Liz Vassey. Nearly $30,000 has been raised so far. Mount, who is currently starring in AMC’s Hell on Wheels, is leading these efforts with more than $24,000 to date.
Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. Beyond disaster relief, Team Rubicon helps veterans find a renewed sense of purpose—vital as many return to civilian life after more than a decade of war.
The nonprofit was founded in the wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake by Jake Wood and William McNulty, both Marine veterans. It has grown from eight to 18,000 members with more than 75 operations under its belt, including Haiti, Superstorm Sandy, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
2014 has been Team Rubicon’s busiest year yet, with responses to tornadoes, floods and damaging storms across the country—like recent mudslides at Mount Baldy.
Similar GORUCK events benefiting Team Rubicon are slated for Washington, D.C., Nov. 1, and Portland, Ore., Dec. 7.
