Detroit Truck Accident Lawyer Gerald H. Acker Comments On Wayne County Crackdown On Overloaded Tractor Trailers
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) November 15, 2013 -- The Law Offices of Goodman Acker, P.C., today announced it was pleased to learn about an effort to crack down on overweight tractor-trailer trucks in Brownstown Township.
The Detroit Free Press (“Added patrols will target overweight trucks in Brownstown Township,” October 7) reported that the effort to reduce overloaded and overweight trucks came in response to concerns that these trucks were damaging Michigan roadways and creating dangerous driving conditions.
The partnership between Brownstown Township and the Wayne’s County Sheriff’s Office will result in a larger police presence on township streets beginning in November, according to the article. Detroit truck accident attorney Gerald H. Acker of Goodman Acker, P.C., said serious accidents involving catastrophic and fatal injuries can sometimes be traced back to overloaded tractor trailers.
“Overloaded and overweight tractor trailer trucks present a number of dangers to drivers. These trucks are much more difficult to control or stop. They can cause brake failure or blowouts. They can jackknife or tip over due to their weight,” said Acker, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “They also can cause extra wear and tear on our roads and highways, which can be costly for taxpayers in addition to creating a safety hazard.”
According to the Detroit Free Press, the additional police presence is designed to limit the amount of overweight trucks that make their way into the municipality, which is one of a number of Wayne County municipalities that have already enacted similar measures in trying to reduce the amount of overloaded vehicles on their roadways.
Truck companies and drivers who overload their trailers will face fines, the Detroit Free Press article said. Individual towns and the state’s Municipal Support Enforcement Unit will split the revenue generated through fines, the article stated.
Acker said victims or families who lost loved ones in accidents should speak to a personal injury attorney about their legal options. He noted that personal injury attorneys can help victims pursue compensation from a trucking company or any other responsible parties if an overloaded truck causes an accident. He said personal injury lawyers can protect the rights of victims and families who lost loved ones in accidents and send a message that negligence by trucking companies will not be tolerated in Michigan.
