CHANDLER, Ariz., Aug. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Trident at American InterContinental University (Trident) Faculty Member Dr. John Magrane's research paper, "Antecedents of Consumer Willingness to Disclose Personal Information in E-Commerce," received the Best Paper Award at the 19th Global Information Technology Management (GITMA) World Conference.
Co-authors on this paper include Dr. Indira Guzman, Doctoral Studies Director in Trident's Glenn R. Jones College of Business (GRJ-COB) and Dr. Tim Jacks, Associate Professor, Southern Illinois University.
In this paper, Dr. Magrane and co-authors examine customer willingness to share personal information in the online marketplace. Although e-commerce has grown rapidly in the past two decades, security breaches, cyberattacks, and related events have created unease among many consumers when it comes to sharing personal information.
The research suggests that user privacy concerns, user trust, and knowledge sharing behavior all predict a willingness to share personal information. Given the reluctance of consumers to share information, the authors believe that addressing privacy concerns is a key way to address this reluctance.
Additionally, findings reveal that consumers who are highly concerned with privacy show less willingness to disclose personal information, while consumers with higher levels of trust are more willing to share personal information.
