Tripps Travel Network shares the most amazing things to do with travelers heading to this northern Oregon city.

One of the most eclectic cities in the United States, Portland sits at the border of Oregon and Washington along the Columbia River. Also known as Rose City, Portland is popular with travelers for its bevy of craft breweries, art districts and music scene. To help vacationers narrow down their list of things to do in this Pacific Northwest city, Tripps Travel Network shares its list of top three events here in August.

The Bite of Oregon: Taking place at Portland’s Waterfront Park from Aug. 7 to 9, visitors to the Bite of Oregon festival can enjoy three days of food, beer, wine and entertainment. Attendees can see both local chefs and national celebrity chefs work their culinary magic at the Dining Out in the Northwest Chef's Stage. There are also two music stages located at opposite ends of the festival featuring local acts performing a mix of soul, jazz, classic rock and blues. Tripps Travel Network says the Bite of Oregon keeps the event family friendly with the Subway Kids Zone stage featuring performances for the little foodies.

PDX Adult Soap Box Derby: Scheduled for Aug. 15, Portland’s PDX Adult Soap Box Derby is an all-volunteer grass roots community event. The PDX Adult Soap Box Derby is now in its 18th year, continuing a locally beloved summertime tradition at Mt. Tabor Park. The event draws crowds of 7,000 to 10,000 people each year. The popularity of the derby is due in part to the colorful and sidesplitting spectacle of more than 40 coaster cars piloted by adults racing down the intimidating slopes of Mt. Tabor with nothing but gravity powering their vehicles. The racing teams coast down the course three times before the championship rounds. Award categories include speed, engineering, art, crowd pleasure and many more. Tripps Travel Network recommends traveling to this free event for some quirky entertainment.

Hood to Coast Relay: From Aug. 28 to 29 travelers to this part of Oregon can enjoy the 34th annual Hood to Coast Relay race. This charity event benefits the Providence Cancer Center, with participants challenged to donate $1 for every mile they run or walk. The participants join in teams of 8 to 12 people, and this year race coordinators are expecting 12,600 runners, as well as 3,600 volunteers. The relay race that is 198 miles long and stretches from Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood to the beach in the town of Seaside. The finish line celebration will feature a beer and wine garden, live music and an awards ceremony.
