Filipino-owned Tru Cab Helps Phoenix Valley Residents Raise Money for Typhoon Victims
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- From now through November 20th, Tru Cab will donate 10% of every ride towards the relief efforts for Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines. Also for any advanced reservation made by November 20th at TruCab.com/help or using the promo code HELP, Tru Cab will donate 10% of those rides as well.
In addition, Tru Cab drivers will be accepting donations of relief items that will be shipped to the Philippines though local 501(c)(3) 3000 Club. Items the drivers will be able to accept include non-perishable items, canned goods, nutrition bars, soaps, wash cloths, toothpaste and toothbrushes, blankets, flashlights and pots and pans. You can also drop off items Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The 3000 Club office/warehouse, located at 1741 W. Rose Garden Lane, Suites 6-9 in Phoenix, AZ 85027.
Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines last Thursday, November 7th and instantly became one of the strongest storms on record. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center estimated sustained winds reaching 195 mph and gusts up to 235 mph. For comparison, in 1996, a microburst hit Deer Valley airport with wind speeds reaching 115 mph. That storm which went on to hit several west valley cities and was estimated to cause over 160 million dollars in damage.
Tru Cab co-owner Eric Mulvin, who along with other Filipino valley residents, shares strong ties back to the Philippines. “Most of my family lives in the Philippines so I really wanted to do something to help out the people out there,” said Mulvin, “it's so heart breaking to see the pain and suffering.” With so many ways for Phoenix area residents to help donate, Tru Cab believes that taking a cab ride is a unique way to give. “I think it will be great that Tru Cab will not only help keep drunk customers off the streets this weekend, but those customers will also be contributing towards typhoon relief,” added Mulvin. Tru Cab also plans to encourage customers who call for a cab to donate a non-perishable item when they are picked up.
This isn't the first time Mulvin has garnered community support to raise money for disaster relief in the Philippines. In 2009, Typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines and Mulvin worked with Brandon Bulos, owner of Halo Halo Kitchen in Phoenix to help raise money. “Unfortunately the Philippines is in a disaster prone area, so back in 2009 we were able to raise over $850 to send back to the Philippine Red Cross, I'm excited that the community is really working together to bring an even bigger impact this time” said Mulvin.
Tru Cab plans to split monetary donations between the Philippine Red Cross and The 3000 Club, a Phoenix based charity that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to impoverished families.
