Buffalo, NY Accident Lawyer James Morris Comments on Truck Company Safety Violations in New York
(PRWEB) June 01, 2014 -- Commenting on a recent news story about a number of safety violations found by New York state troopers during a road check of commercial vehicles, Buffalo truck accident lawyer James Morris of the Law Offices of James E. Morris said today safety violations by truckers and trucking companies put everyone sharing the road at immediate risk and cannot be tolerated.
Morris based his comments on a Wall Street Journal article, “101 trucks parked for New York safety violations,” published May 24. According to the report, a road check run southeast of Buffalo along the Southern Tier expressway resulted in 833 commercial vehicle inspections and over 1,300 violations.
“When you consider the consequences of an accident in Buffalo or elsewhere in New York, a single commercial vehicle safety violation is one too many,” Morris said. “The Law Offices of James Morris supports the efforts of New York state troopers to crack down on negligent trucking companies and truck drivers who put New Yorkers’ lives at risk each day. Based on the amount of violations found in the recent road checks, it’s clear that much more work needs to be done to hold truckers and their employers accountable.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, the road check was conducted May 11-14 in Tioga and Steuben counties along I-86 and State Route 17. State police said over the course of 833 inspections, 1,326 violations were found. This resulted in 101 trucks and 45 drivers being taken off the road, the Wall Street Journal reported.
State police said safety violations included unsecured loads, inoperable signals, and problems with truck brakes and lights. In addition, according to the article, 28 drivers exceeded hours-of-service rules, eight had an improper license or lacked a license, and four truckers weren’t medically cleared to drive their vehicles.
“Truck accidents are among the most catastrophic cases we handle at our firm,” Morris said. “It’s the legal obligation of all truck companies to properly maintain their vehicles, hire qualified drivers and monitor the hours their employees are on the road. Given the amount of trucks and truck drivers taken off New York roadways in such a short span of time, it’s obvious that many truck companies aren’t doing their part to keep our roads safe.”
Morris said truck accident victims should contact an attorney immediately to discuss their legal options with a legal advocate who knows how to hold negligent truck companies responsible for their actions.
