The Direct Marketing Association found that 79% of consumers act on direct mail immediately. On top of that, 10% more people visited a brand’s website in response to direct mail when compared to e-mail. Further, almost half said they keep printed items, while 17% said they do so on a regular basis. “Marketing is about communication with potential customers. While it’s important to stay up-to-date with trends and have a website, it’s also important for businesses to know ‘how’ their customers want to learn about the brand,” Aultman adds. “And for many, direct mail is still the preferred way to learn about a product or service.”

While the role of digital marketing is growing rapidly, more than half of all respondents (56%) said printed marketing is the most trustworthy of all media channels. These results illustrate that the printed word is not an outdated communication tool, Aultman explains, and that direct mail should continue to play an important role in a company’s marketing efforts.
