Tylenol Liver Damage Lawsuits up for Discussion at Federal Status Conference in October, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 28, 2014 -- Tylenol lawsuits (http://www.tylenollawsuitcenter.com/) in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania are continuing to move forward, as parties prepare for the federal litigation’s status conference in October, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
The meeting will take place on October 21st, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., according to a schedule released by the Court earlier this year, and is the latest to discuss matters related to lawsuits involving the pain-relieving medication from Johnson & Johnson. All cases filed in the federal Tylenol litigation, which is underway in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, allege serious liver damage caused by its active ingredient, acetaminophen, which plaintiffs claim to have been inadequately warned about by Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Consumer Healthcare. (In Re: Tylenol (Acetaminophen) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2436)
“We are looking forward to the Tylenol litigation’s upcoming status conference in October, as we continue to actively speak with individuals who allegedly suffered sudden liver failure after taking the pain-relieving medication, says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective medical devices and drugs on the U.S. market. The Firm’s attorneys are offering free and confidential legal reviews to individuals who allege acetaminophen-related liver failure that required hospitalization, the need for a transplant, and even led to death, in the worst-case scenario.
Tylenol Lawsuits
Court records reflect continued progress in the federal Tylenol litigation now pending in Pennsylvania federal court. According to a Case List updated on September 15th, at least 158 lawsuits alleging acetaminophen-related liver damage have now been centralized in the proceeding, after being filed by patients who allege instances of hospitalization and the need for a liver transplant, which may have resulted in death after taking Tylenol in accordance with label directions.
Acetaminophen-related liver damage is no small problem, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report in February 2014. Each year, toxic reactions stemming from Tylenol’s active ingredient result in 78,000 emergency room visits and 33,000 hospitalizations.*
A year earlier, Bloomberg.com reported that acetaminophen amounts in over-the-counter Tylenol products exceed a cap issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011, which limited levels of the ingredient to 325 mg in prescription medications. Extra Strength Tylenol contains 500 mg of acetaminophen, according to the report.**
Individuals who allegedly sustained sudden liver failure that resulted in hospitalization, the need for a transplant or even death, may be entitled to compensation for injury-related damages.
