Tylenol Litigation Gears Up for November Status Conference to Discuss Claims Alleging Tylenol Liver Damage, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
(PRWEB) November 09, 2014 -- Tylenol lawsuits (http://www.tylenollawsuitcenter.com/ ) are continuing to move forward in a federal litigation now underway in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where parties are looking ahead to an upcoming status conference this month, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
According to a Scheduling Order filed earlier this year, the proceeding’s next Case Management Conference will take place on November 18th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. This is the Tylenol litigation’s most recent monthly meeting in a series scheduled to regularly discuss issues related to lawsuits over the pain-relieving medication. Cases in the litigation allege Tylenol liver damage injuries caused by its active ingredient, acetaminophen, which occurred after label instructions were properly followed. As a result, patients experienced liver failure that resulted in the need for hospitalization, liver transplantation or death, according to plaintiffs. “We are looking forward to the federal Tylenol litigation’s status conference this month, as our Firm regularly hears from individuals who were allegedly injured by over-the-counter Tylenol medications,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is offering free legal case evaluations to individuals who may have suffered acetaminophen-related liver damage that resulted in the need for liver-transplantation, hospitalization or death.
Tylenol Liver Damage
According to documents updated on October 15, a total of 164 lawsuits alleging Tylenol liver damage have now been filed in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania. These cases accuse Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Consumer Healthcare of failing to adequately warn about acetaminophen-related injuries to the liver.
In February 2014, the Philadelphia Inquirer published some startling findings related to the frequency of liver damage injuries involving Tylenol’s active ingredient. Toxic reactions from acetaminophen roughly cause 78,000 emergency room visits each year, along with 33,000 hospitalizations, according to the report.*
Three years earlier, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) capped the amount of acetaminophen in prescription medications to 325 mg. In 2013, Bloomberg reported that Extra Strength Tylenol—an over-the-counter medication—contained far more than that, at 500 mg of acetaminophen per capsule.**
Individuals who sustained sudden liver failure after taking Tylenol that warranted the need for hospitalization or a liver transplant, or resulted in death may be entitled to compensation for injury-related damages.
