UC Irvine Health Appoints William C. Wilson, MD, as Director of Critical Care Services
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) November 15, 2013 -- William C. Wilson, MD, former vice chairman and chief of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at University of California, San Diego, has been named Director of Critical Care Services at UC Irvine Health system. Dr. Wilson oversees the adult intensive care units (ICUs) at UC Irvine Douglas Hospital, including Medical Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Surgical Intensive Care, Neuroscience Intensive Care and Burn unit.
Dr. Wilson brings with him a diverse background that includes formal training in surgery, anesthesiology, adult and pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesia, and critical care medicine. With more than two decades of clinical experience at the faculty level, caring for critically ill patients in a wide range of intensive care settings is his specialty. Additionally, Dr. Wilson has plenty of leadership experience in the management of critical care physician assignments, patient flow, and resource allocation in a number of ICU models.
Dr. Wilson attended medical school at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed his residencies in Anesthesia and General Surgery at UC San Diego and UC San Francisco, respectively. With years of experience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Wilson is a welcome addition to UC Irvine Critical Care Medicine, as well as the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care.
During his tenure at UC Irvine Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Wilson will aid in healing patients, teaching residents and students, and discovering new technologies in the field. As an innovative thinker and champion of multidisciplinary care, Dr. Wilson is internationally recognized as a leader in critical care, both as an author and clinician-scientist teacher. In addition to authoring four major textbooks, Dr. Wilson has contributed to hundreds of chapters, and has reviewed articles and scientific papers specific to the medical field.
