UC Irvine Health Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care Announces Inaugural Perioperative Surgical Home Conference to Be Held June 2014
Orange, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- The University of California Irvine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care will host the inaugural Perioperative Surgical Home Summit on June 7-8, 2014 at The Balboa Bay Report in Newport Beach, California. Anesthesiologists, surgeons and hospital leaders from around the country will gather to learn practical techniques for implementing the Perioperative Surgical Home, an innovative model of patient care pioneered at UC Irvine Medical Center. The Perioperative Surgical Home is a multi-departmental initiative pioneered by anesthesiologists at UC Irvine and aimed at transforming surgical care by improving quality, safety, lowering costs and increasing patient and provider satisfaction. Currently, 60 to 70 percent of all hospital costs are surgical and procedural care. This new model will reform health care from the frontlines.
“We are excited to invite physicians and health care executives to join us for a dynamic weekend of discovering a new approach to delivering surgical care,” Zeev N. Kain, M.D., chair of the UC Irvine Health Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care Department. “At UC Irvine, we have rolled out the Perioperative Surgical Home with remarkable outcomes, research data and patient satisfaction, which brought us to the point of now sharing our experience with the health care community.”
Kain expects the conference to become an annual event.
Experts in their respective fields and accomplished world-renowned lecturers will draw on panel discussion, open format roundtable discussions that promise to deliver excellent, real-world learning experience of the framework for Perioperative Surgical Home Model. The goal is to equip physicians and health care executives with practical techniques to implement this transformative model at their respective institutions.
The Perioperative Surgical Home, led by the anesthesiologist team, is a continuum of coordinated, patient-centered and multidisciplinary care designed to improve surgical outcomes and safety while reducing recovery times, complications and length of stay in the hospital. The model relies heavily on patient preparedness and evidence-based medicine.
A counterpart to the medical home model, the surgical home is particularly effective in managing healthcare expenses while providing better clinical care. Conference objectives include:
• Describing the concepts of the Perioperative Surgical Home model;
• Describing how the Perioperative Surgical Home model fits with national healthcare goals;
• Describing the steps necessary to create a Perioperative Surgical Home in your institution;
• Identifying opportunities to improve coordination of perioperative care;
• Assessing the Perioperative Surgical Home as a means to being successful in a competitive and austere economic environment.
The University of California Irvine School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
