aha! Process CEO’s Book on Understanding Poverty Wins Association of American Publishers Golden Lamp Professional Development Award
WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) June 09, 2014 -- On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) awarded its 2014 Golden Lamp Award for Professional Development to Dr. Ruby Payne, Ph.D., CEO of aha! Process, for her book, A Framework for Understanding Poverty: A Cognitive Approach, 5th Edition.
“We’re very happy,” said Payne, “that our message continues to help educators, social service agencies, employers and individuals better understand poverty and the barriers faced by under-resourced students and adults, so they can use those insights to help improve their communities.”
The Golden Lamp Awards are part of the AAP’s annual REVERE Awards. “The REVERE Awards program,” according to the AAP, “is the most prestigious and comprehensive recognition program in the learning resource community. Formerly known as the AEP Awards program, this annual event continues a decades-long tradition of honoring excellence across all resources for preK-12 and adult learners, educators and administrators.”
The Golden Lamp Awards are, per the AAP, The REVERE Awards’ highest honor of merit for learning resources. “The original learning resource competition, which was introduced by the Association of Educational Publishers in 1967, endures as the most prestigious honor in the program.” The Professional Development category includes all resources used to train and support educators and administrators in their careers.
Originally published in 1995, A Framework for Understanding Poverty: A Cognitive Approach has sold 1.5 million copies. The 5th edition features an enhanced chapter on instruction and achievement; greater emphasis on the thinking, communication, and learning patterns involved in breaking out of poverty; plentiful citations, case studies, and data; more detailed findings about interventions, resources, and causes of poverty; and a review of the outlook for people in poverty and those who work with them.
“It’s an honor for our work to be recognized alongside an outstanding group of finalists,” said Payne, “and by such a prestigious organization.”
