US Federal Contractor Registration: Legislation Proposed by House Republicans Would Increase Small Business Federal Contracting Opportunities
St. Petersbrug, FL (PRWEB) March 06, 2014 -- US Federal Contractor Registration is reporting two bills introduced by the House Small Business Committee this week, which would help increase federal contracting opportunities for small businesses. The bills, the 2014 Greater Opportunities for Small Business Act and 2014 Contracting Data and Bundling Accountability Act, would increase federal contracting goals for small business set asides and increase transparency in bundled contracts respectively. The 2014 Greater Opportunities for Small Business Act would raise the small business contracting goal for federal agencies from 23% to 25%. This 2% increase would mean an additional $10 billion in contract awards for small businesses, according to House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves, R-Mo.
The 2014 Contracting Data and Bundling Accountability Act is expected to help small businesses compete with larger firms through the development of a data quality improvement plan to be implemented by the Small Business Administration. This plan would improve accuracy in the description of bundled contracts.
The two bills are part of a larger markup which includes four other contracting related bills, which also propose improvements for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses and Women-Owned Small Businesses.
“Creating more opportunities for small business through the federal procurement marketplace has been a priority for our Committee during the past two Congresses, and this markup is a continuation of that agenda,” Chairman Graves was quoted as saying on the Committee’s website. “Federal contracting is a great way to help small businesses grow and create jobs, while also bringing efficiencies and valuable cost-savings to the government. This is a win-win that ultimately benefits the taxpayer and the economy.”
