US Sports Camps Provides Summer Sports Camps Scholoarships via Wishbone for Low-Income Students
San Rafael, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2015 -- Wishbone is a non-profit organization that sends low-income high school students from New York City, the Bay Area, and Los Angeles to summer programs. Wishbone is driven by three goals: 1) To inspire thousands of kids to redefine their future and pursue their passions, 2) To reshape the scholarship market by opening high-quality programs to low-income students, and 3) To create accountability and awareness about the opportunity gap.
US Sports Camps, operators of Nike Sports Camps, have been working with Wishbone since 2012. This year, US Sports Camps has provided scholarships for several Wishbone students to attend a US/Nike Sports Camp offered at various locations around the country.
"We are so happy to be able to work with Wishbone and have their students join us at our camps,” said US Sports Camps CEO Charlie Hoeveler. "The work they are doing is so important. It gives us great pride to help change young peoples’ lives and help provide them with some experiences and tools to steer them in the right direction.”
Since 2012, Wishbone has helped 312 students raise $880,284 in funding for summer programs and seen some incredibly positive changes from their students. After returning from summer programs, Wishbone students improve academically: 56% reported improvement in academic achievement, 100% of graduating seniors were accepted to college, and 100% plan to attend college. Wishbone Students are also more prepared and independent: 74% reported improved ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks on time, 77% said they were more prepared to overcome challenges, and 75% were able to name a specific career path they wished to pursue.
