The federal judge overseeing thousands of vaginal mesh lawsuits ( involving pelvic mesh devices manufactured by Ethicon Inc. has issued several rulings pertaining to the litigation’s first bellwether trials. According to an Order filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia on February 5th, Judge Joseph Goodwin has ruled that the defense will be allowed to introduce mesh complication rates that are drawn from reliable statistical methods and/or peer-reviewed literature. Judge Goodwin also granted a defense motion to exclude evidence of other TVT transvaginal mesh lawsuits, as it could unduly prejudice, mislead or confuse the jury. (Lewis, et al. v.
