Valley Presbyterian Hospital Hosts Blood Drive, Working With the American Red Cross, Hospital Plans Drive for June 25
Van Nuys, CA (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) is hosting a community blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross on June 25. The event will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Health Education Center Auditorium.
American Red Cross nurses and support staff will be on site to accommodate those who wish to donate. Donors also may contact the Red Cross at http://www.redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment with the code ValleyPresHospital, or call 818.902.2932 for more information.
All participating individuals must complete a simple registration process with American Red Cross and undergo a medical history review and a mini-physical. As a special thank you for participating, all donors will receive a coupon for a free taco from Wahoo’s Fish Taco, two tickets to the Laugh Factory comedy club, and a voucher for two tickets to an LA Galaxy soccer game.
“Blood donors are real-life heroes to those in need,” said Lori Burnell, Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer. “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to ensure that a healthy blood supply is available to our patients and those in our community. We encourage everyone to come by and support this effort on June 25.”
One unit of blood provides three life-saving blood products: packed blood cells, frozen plasma and platelets. Valley Presbyterian Hospital uses these products to treat patients with blood disorders, patients undergoing certain surgical procedures and patients who have experienced traumatic accidents or injuries.
Valley Presbyterian Hospital transfuses approximately 350 to 400 units of blood a month.
“Our entire inventory of blood products is derived from volunteer donations,” said Ms. Burnell. “We are so thankful for our blood donors and their generosity and willingness to help others in need.”
