Valley Presbyterian Hospital Launches Welcome Baby Program – First 5 LA Grant Employed to Implement a Maternity Program
Van Nuys, CA (PRWEB) July 08, 2014 -- Valley Presbyterian Hospital recently launched its Welcome Baby prenatal and infant care program and is enrolling eligible maternity patients into the free program.
The Welcome Baby program was made possible through a grant from First 5 LA, a child and family advocacy organization. The hospital has partnered with nonprofit organization, El Nido Family Centers, to provide home-based services to Welcome Baby participants.
“Through the Welcome Baby program, we are improving maternity care to meet the growing needs of mothers, children, and families in the San Fernando Valley,” said Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer Lori Burnell.
Welcome Baby offers free hospital and home-based services to qualified pregnant women and mothers who live in designated areas of Los Angeles County and give birth at participating hospitals. The First 5 LA initiative is designed to strengthen families by improving the physical and emotional health and safety of children throughout Los Angeles County. The program is offered to all qualifying families, regardless of risk factors or socioeconomic status.
All families whose babies are delivered at Valley Presbyterian Hospital will receive a Welcome Baby hospital visit at the time of their child’s birth, and may be eligible for up to nine postpartum visits. Qualified Welcome Baby hospital liaisons visit with each family to address a wide spectrum of maternity concerns, such as breastfeeding, prenatal health testing, active labor signs, postpartum depression, infant nutrition, infant jaundice, and growth stages.
