South Florida Foot & Ankle Centers Welcomes Dr. Kazamias, DPM
West Palm Beach, Florida (PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- Dr. Jennifer Kazamias has joined South Florida Foot & Ankle Centers and is a welcomed addition to the practice, which will now be offering sclerotherapy, a treatment for varicose and spider veins. Dr. Kazamias has been performing sclerotherapy for more than 10 years with very successful results.
“South Florida Foot & Ankle Centers offers diverse treatments and has access to state-of-the-art technology,” says Dr. Kazamias. “We do not need to refer patients out to other treatment facilities because we can treat them here in our office.”
Sclerotherapy is treatment for spider veins and superficial varicose veins. While the treatment is usually requested for cosmetic reasons, it does help alleviate some symptoms of pain and swelling patients may experience because of vein dysfunction. Common symptoms of patients include edema, fatigue, and a heavy feeling in the ankles and feet. Standing or sitting for long periods of time can exacerbate these symptoms. Some common causes of vein dysfunction include heredity, age, hormonal changes, pregnancy and weight gain. Both men and women of all ages can benefit from sclerotherapy treatments for unwanted and unsightly veins.
The method of varicose and spider vein treatment is by way of injecting a sclerosing agent via a very fine needle directly into the unwanted vein. This treatment causes chemical destruction to the inner lining of the vein which in time causes the vein to close down and fade. Mild bruising and tenderness at the injection site should be expected to last for about 7 to 10 days. Patients with a history of blood clots or thromboembolic disease should avoid this type of treatment.
Once the treatment is completed, patients must wear compression stockings over the next several days, as instructed by the doctor. However, there is no downtime after the procedure and patients wearing the compression stockings should not feel any significant discomfort. Patients are encouraged to walk after the vein removal treatment is completed and may continue daily activities, but strenuous exercising is not advised for the first few days. A follow up visit is scheduled with Dr. Kazamias a few weeks after the initial treatment. Most patients will need two to six treatments to achieve the desired results.
For most patients, sclerotherapy is safe with minimal risks and mild side effects. Treatment time is about 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of veins to be treated and is performed in the doctor’s office. For patients who have unwanted veins in their legs that make them feel uncomfortable about their appearance, Dr. Kazamias offers a free consultation to discuss vein treatment options.
