DANBURY, Conn., April 22, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The law firm of Ventura Law has announced it will participate in Denim Day on April 24 by encouraging its employees, clients, and the Danbury community at large to wear jeans on that day in support of sexual assault survivors.
Denim Day was originally triggered by a ruling of the Italian Supreme Court when a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
"Ventura Law is proud to support Denim Day. There is no excuse and never an invitation to harass, assault, abuse or rape. Sexual harassment is unacceptable, traumatizing and unfair. We encourage all to wear denim on April 24th to support survivors everywhere and to end sexual violence. Together we can change the attitudes and culture that enable abuse." said Attorney Valerie B. Calistro, Managing Partner, Ventura Law.
