Veracity Forecasting and Analysis (Veracity) is proud to announce the award of a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract to support the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) under topic AF141-091, “Physics-based modeling of solid rocket motor propellant.”

Shrinking defense budgets are driving the requirement to sustain the existing Air Force Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) fleet well beyond its designed service life. Increasing the accuracy of SRM predictive modeling tools is one of the keys to extending the service life of fielded SRMs. For much of the 50+ year history of the SRM industry, researchers and engineers have used simple models based on laboratory data to predict the performance of aging SRM materials in the field. Recent advances in computing hardware and simulation techniques have demonstrated the feasibility of replacing these simplified forecasting approaches with higher fidelity physics-based modeling tools. AFRL’s SBIR topic “Physics-based modeling of solid rocket motor propellant” provides the opportunity to improve the predictive modeling capabilities of the SRM community.
