Higdon Insurance Group, a Huntsville area firm offering insurance and financial preparation services to families and entrepreneurs in the northern Alabama region, is inaugurating an extended charity drive in conjunction with Service Dogs Alabama to provide services to disabled veterans.

The Service Dogs Alabama organization rescues and trains canines to act as companions to veterans with a wide range of disabilities. These dogs provide not only companionship, but can be trained to detect seizures, offer assistance getting into and out of wheelchairs, and are highly effective at managing the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

“This charity event improves our community in two ways: by helping local veterans who are in need of assistance and companionship, as well as by rescuing canines that might otherwise face euthanasia,” says Michael Higdon senior agency and executive director of Higdon Insurance Group.

Higdon and his team have taken to the Internet to help raise community support for the Service Dogs Alabama charity drive, and are utilizing a range of both email and social media tools to connect with local residents. Further efforts to build community wide engagement for the event will include a soon to be published cover article discussing charity drive goals, slated for release in the firm’s online magazine “Our Hometown”: http://higdoninsurance.com/magazines/.

To date, the Higdon Insurance Group has participated in three major charity events in the Huntsville community. As regional representatives of the “Agents of Change” charity support program, the firm plans to continue working in support of local nonprofits, and will be launching new charity drives every sixty days.
