Vice President Mike Pence Visits the Valley Heralding Arizona’s Economy
TEMPE, Ariz. (PRWEB) March 05, 2019 -- Accompanied by Governor Ducey, Vice President Mike Pence visited the Valley today speaking to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in Arizona. After that, he participated in a round table with the leadership of the NAM and Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon.
While celebrations of Arizona’s economic success ensued with business leaders, there’s also no doubt that part of the discussion focused on worker shortage, specifically for the middle-skills jobs in manufacturing, education, technology, health care, bio science, public safety, aviation and business.
Earlier in January, in Governor Doug Ducey’s State of the State address, he said, “We have more jobs available in the state of Arizona than we have people to fill them.”
The Maricopa Community Colleges are Arizona’s workforce solution. Here, students can prepare for a career in as little as two years and receive trainings and certifications for 95 percent of the most in-demand jobs in Arizona.
“Synergy among education, the workplace and the economy is critical for Arizona’s future,” said the Maricopa County Community College District Chancellor, Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick. “We provide a 21st-century learning experience to prepare our students for jobs of today and tomorrow where they receive hands-on learning opportunities within local businesses.”
Students that engage in workforce development programs gain a competitive advantage in the job market, employers acquire stellar human capital, and the market also wins as 89 percent of students stay in the same community from where they acquired their education and contribute to the economy.
In response to the Vice President’s visit today, Chancellor Maria-Harper-Marinick said, “We were honored to receive Vice President Mike Pence so he could see first-hand the success of our economy and critical role workforce development plays.”
