On May 7, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford officially announced that the Vietnam Era had ended. From 1964 through 1975 — 8,744,000 active duty U.S. military personnel served during the war, with 2,594,000 serving within the borders of South Vietnam. The Vietnam Era also includes all veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam as early as February 28, 1961.

After reuniting with a Vietnam service buddy through the photo collection, veteran K.
