I want children to realize that they can reach their goals if they work hard and are determined.

From Vincent Marotta, author of “The Rhino Express,” comes “Pablo's Pelican” (published by Trafford Publishing), the engaging story of a young Hispanic boy who quickly finds himself as the man of the house.

Pablo lives with his parents and brother in a village by the sea. When his grandmother falls ill however, Pablo’s father decides to leave the family for a while to go care for her. In that moment, Pablo realizes that he must become the man of the house.

In an effort to bring home money, Pablo takes a job as a fisherman for a captain, but the fish aren’t biting. His only hope is a talking pelican named Miguel who just might know the best place to fish.

Marotta writes, “I want children to realize that they can reach their goals if they work hard and are determined.”

An excerpt from “Pablo's Pelican”:

“Once upon a time, in the little town of La Villa Del Mar, lived a boy named Pablo Guillermo with his mother, father and little brother, Juan. One morning, Mr. Guillermo explained to his family that Pablo and Juan’s grandmother had fallen sick overnight, and he would have to go stay with her until she recovers. Pablo realized that he would have to be the “man of the house” until his father returned, but how? He wondered.”
