Vincenzina Urzia Shares Memoir On Her Sons’ Battle With Drug Addiction

As a normal kid growing up, Anthony attended play group, school, and played sport. Everything was going well for the Urzia family until at the age of 14, Anthony started using marijuana. It slowly progresses into other drugs as well and it went on for about eleven years.
While on drugs, Anthony was not the same person anymore. Drugs changed him. About four years after abusing himself with drugs, he was diagnosed with psychosis and schizophrenia, a mental illness that no mother wants to watch her child go through. Anthony’s death took a heavy toll for a mother like Vincenzina. She is still struggling to accept the fact that her son is gone forever. She could still feel the pain and loss from deep inside her heart.
“Anthony and Me” is a poignant revelation of a grieving mother whose son fall victim to the evils of drug addiction and how she loved him so much up to the very end of his life despite his many shortcomings as a son to her. It reflects the special bond between a son and his mother that remains strong forever. About the Author
Vincenzina Urzia was born in Calabria, south of Italy, in a small town of maybe three hundred people. She is the fifth child of seven. In the year 1969, her family decided to migrate to Australia for a better life. At the age of 14, she was working full-time. At the age of 21, she met her husband Giovanni. Twelve months later, they were married. Their wedding day was on 22 April 1978, that is a total of thirty-five years, and they are still married today. She is 57 years old and a mother. After going through two miscarriages, on 15 April 1983, she gave birth to her first child, Matthew. He’s 30 now and about to become a daddy. Three years later, on 31 January 1986, she gave birth to her second child, Anthony.
